Riassunto Veloce. #1

By 9:23 PM

Buona sera!

Dear Host family,

I’m Sara, it’s a pretty short name, I’m sure it won’t be hard to remember!
I can’t believe that I’m eventually writing this letter, until now I
Didn’t realize that this was really happening.
First of all, before even start, I would love to thank you for the opportunity you are giving me, I appreciate this al lot and I’m sure you’re going to teach me how to be a perfect American girl and also help me improve my English.

I just turned sixteen and I’m attending the third year of high school, where I study history of art and architecture mainly,
I have never had problems at school, most subjects are easy for me to study, such as English, I always did really well at it!
Probably because I read and listen to a lot of music in English;
I love music; I always have my headphones with me, wherever I go. My favourite singer is Ed Sheeran, he plays the guitar fantastically, I play the guitar too, but not as good as him unfortunately. I also can play the flute very well!

Now I’ll tell you something about my family.
My mum is called Francesca and she’s 45, she has a shop with my grandmother that takes her a lot of time, but I still get to see her often and She always finds the time for my brothers and me when we need her.
I would say that I get on quite well with my mum, obviously we fight every now and than, but she has always tried to support me in anything I ever wanted to do, as she’s doing now with this experience.
My dad’s name is Dario, he is 44 and he is a mechanic, probably my dad’s job keeps him even busier than my mum’s, he leaves very early in the mornings and he comes home in the evenings, I usually spend time with him at the weekends; I consider myself lucky to have him because he is one of those person who has always something to teach you. He is really wise, he does not speak a lot, he’s not really outgoing, I’m quite similar to him in this sense, but when he speaks he always says the right words, he always makes me lough too!

So what about my brothers?
Well, they are called Paolo and Pietro:
Paolo is the bigger one, he is seventeen and he studies graphics. He is at the fourth year, we get along well, but we also are very different, sometimes I feel like I’m the oldest! Apart from that, I know he will always protect me.
Pietro is the little one, he is six, and he’s attending the first year of elementary school, I think the difference between our ages doesn’t let us relate much, but I also can’t imagine my life without him.

We all live in a little city in the north of Italy, about an hour away from Milan,
I can’t complain about this place, I have everything I need…we are surrounded by the mountains which is really useful if you like to ski, as I do! Ski is just one of the sports I love doing, I’ve tried hundreds, I also love horse riding and every water related sport, in fact here we also have the lake where my family and I usually go out boating in summer.
I really hope that I’ll be able to do some sports next year, I’m looking forward to trying some American ones, maybe that I have never tried before!

One thing I surely love about my city is that everything is near and I can reach most places with my Vespa, which I think I’m going to really miss next year!
I’ve been driving it for three years.
I drive to a lot of different places, such as my friend’s houses;
I wouldn’t say that I have lots of friends, but they’re the right ones.
I spend more time with five girls I met last year when I went to New York, since than they’ve never left me, I can really trust them and they will never leave me alone, that’s why I know that they will still be here when I’ll come back!
Then there’s another girl, Paola, who has been by my side for the last five years, she is amazing and we love eating sushi together!
I certainly will miss them, but I have wanted to face this experience since I can remember.

I have always loved to travel, I love learning about other cultures, and I think that when you travel a small part of every place you visit stays in you forever,
For me is also very important to take pictures, because with them you can capture moments that will never come back.
I’m very lucky because I had the occasion to travel a lot, with and without my family, even if I’m only sixteen.
I’m definitely aware of the fact that next year won’t be a simple holiday, and I couldn’t be more excited about that.
There’s a sentence I always remind myself, that says:
“The only impossible journey is the one you never begin”.
I really believe in these words, I don’t want to spend the rest of my life thinking: “ what would have happened if…?”, because I would rather live with regret than remorse.
In fact I’m very confident and determinate about this experience,
I know that this is what I want.
Another aspect about my character: I rarely change my mind, and I also always speak my mind, but, On the other hand, I’m reserved and shy when I first meet people,
I’m trying to improve myself on this side.

I think that after this exchange year I will be a new Sara, who have learned to be independent and to know who she is; all of this is probably priceless, that’s why I’m so grateful to every person is making this happen.
I hope that though this experience I will make memories that won’t ever leave me,
I hope to meet wonderful people from a different culture, who will be able to accept me in their lives as one of them,
I hope to earn not only friends, but also a family,
And Lastly,
I can promise that I will do everything I can to be the best daughter you could’ve ever asked for.

I can’t wait to meet you,

Sara.
